J&D's Baconnaise & Bacon Salt Review and Giveaway - CLOSED

Hmmm...Yes - You read that right...J&D's Baconnaise & Bacon Salt.

What in the world? I know, I know, I thought that too! My neighbor Melanie told me about a company that created seasoning and a spread that tasted just like bacon. She then proceeded to tell me they also created lip balm that was bacon flavored.

"NO WAY" I said, but I scurried home (and no I am not a mouse, I just like the word) to research this company and sure enough she was right.

J&D's was formed because a couple of men and a vegetarian woman were sitting around a table talking about how much they loved bacon (although the vegetarian could not eat bacon) and how everything should taste like bacon. I am so not joking. Check out their full story here.

Bacon Salt comes in a variety of flavors, Original, Peppered (for a little kick), Hickory, Natural, Mesquite, Jalapeno, and more. You can put these on just about anything you want, pastas, burgers, steak, eggs, vegetables, and more. J&D's also offers up recipes to create some great dishes with their Bacon Salt.

The Baconnaise comes in Regular & Lite and is, essentially, spreadable bacon. No kidding - Ask my husband. I even caught him licking a spoonful of it. Tsk Tsk!




Then what I read later, made me feel very good about this company. First, they do offer Merchandise for sale on their website (besides the Bacon Salt & Baconnaise). Like t-shirts that say "Save Your Bacon" or my favorite, a picture of a pig that says "Thank you". HA HA. J&D's donates the proceeds of the sale of these "merchandise" items to Mercy Corps. How great is that?

But it gets even better. They started Operation Bacon Salt. They have committed to sending our troops stationed overseas Bacon Salt each month. Now, while they do not have enough resources to send all the troops Bacon Salt products, they committed to sponsoring one group of soldiers each month until our troops come home. I asked them if I could review a few of their products and do a giveaway and they said sure! I was shocked, yes, I felt faint when I opened my mailbox and there was this box of multiple products to review. Boy did I want to make dinner FAST that night - I HAD to check this out.



But before I did, I just had to try out the Bacon Lip Balm they sent me - I swear, my lips were flavored with bacon after I used it. I might as well have had two strips of bacon sitting on my lips. (Can you imagine seeing that!)

Back to dinner. I had already defrosted my chicken for the night and my husband wasn't home so I had to find one of their seasonings that was not too "bacony" because I was not sure how bacon & chicken would taste.


So I picked the Natural Flavor Bacon Salt - Just rubbed it all over my chicken and baked it. Ok, Ok, I will admit, I was nervous because I just put Natural Bacon Flavor Salt on my chicken - But it was sooo good! Even my kids liked it. There was just a hint of bacon, with just a nice flavor. Very tasty!

When my husband got home from work he was all over the Baconnaise. He made multiple sandwiches for himself and said he swore he was eating bacon without the actual bacon.

So the next day, of course I had to make eggs for breakfast and put another Bacon Salt to the test. This time we tried the Original Bacon Salt. I did a taste test with my kids. Half the eggs I put the Original Bacon Salt on, the other half I didn't.

Which one do you think Betsy liked? As Betsy said, "Two thumbs up" for the Original Bacon Salt.
