Diet Survivor's Handbook Review & Giveaway - CLOSED

We have been planning a family get together at the beach with my husbands family for almost a year now. About two months ago I said "I need to lose 5lbs for the beach". Why is it I cannot be happy with "me" and what is 5 lbs actually really going to do if I gain 7 lbs after I get back from the beach? Well, I read a book recently that has been a HUGE eye opener for me.

I was given the opportunity to read and review "The Diet Survivor's Handbook" written by Judith Matz, LCSW and Ellen Frankel, LCSW. The book is divided into two parts with 60 lessons. At the end of each lesson is an activity and an inspiring quote. Part One: Becoming a Diet Survivor focuses on learning what it takes to become a Diet Survivor and Part Two: Living as a Diet Survivor focuses on self acceptance and truly living as a Diet Survivor.

This book is about inspiring you to get off the diet bandwagon and let your weight stabilize - Yes it is possible.

This book is about telling you how diets are actually detrimental to your health.

This book is about learning how to love the body you are in, and no, we cannot all be size 2's and have long, blonde, beautiful hair, blue eyes, and a 22 inch waist and we can be OK with that.

This book is about learning how to have a healthy relationship with food. That you don't have to have a definition of "bad" foods and "good" foods and those terms can sabotage your eating habits.

This book is about learning how to read your hunger signals, and use those to your advantage.

Let me tell you, I really, really loved this book. It is not a book you read once and put away "lessons learned". No, this is a book that you will read once, do the activities, read the quotes and then go back and read specific "lessons" over again. It is absolutely a learning process and it is one of those books you read, and then when you are doing something (like eating based on "mouth hunger") you will think about what the authors had written and think to yourself "Wow they are right!".

I know, I know, you are asking what is "mouth hunger". The authors describe two types of hunger. "Stomach hunger" is actual, the physiological need to eat - when your stomach gives you clues that your body needs nourishment. "Mouth hunger" is psychological - based hunger, where you are eating when you are not physically hungry. Hmm...I have had my eye on that one all week. I have been watching it like a hawk. For example, it is 11:00 and it is time for me to eat my lunch. Not necessarily because I am hungry, but because that is what time I have eaten lunch every day in the past 10 years. There have been many times this week that I have caught myself eating based on "mouth hunger" and that is OK. This is a completely different mind set than we are used to, and the authors will say do not kick yourself because you ate when you were "mouth hungry," but give yourself some credit for actually recognizing the difference between the two.
There is just so much information I would like to tell you about this book, but I am running out of space!

To me, this is an absolute must have for any one who has ever been on a diet, or is thinking of starting one. "The Diet Survivor's Handbook" can be purchased here on Amazon and is definitely worth the investment.

The Diet Survivor's Handbook also has it's own website here where you can learn even more about The Diet Survivor. Listen to podcasts, read testimonials, sign up for their quarterly newsletter, read new lessons that are not published in the book, and even write your own testimonial!

I know, you want my book for yourself. Unfortunately you cannot have it because I need to continue to learn from it.

However, you do have a chance to win your VERY OWN Diet Survivor's Handbook!
